קצפת ודובדבנים | Gur Bentwich | Israel, 2019 | Hebrew/English (English subtitles) | Comedy | 92m | DCP | IMDB | Distributor/Sales: Loco Films | Festival marketing sample: JFF 2019 | Clip

Description: The premiere screening of his film in Tel Aviv leaves 52 year old film director Zuriel Shustak deeply worried by its reception and prospects. After dropping off his girlfriend at home, he asks the cab driver to take him to a hospital’s emergency department because he is feeling unwell. Thus begins a night’s odyssey that exposes his fears, neurosis and frustrations.

Merits: There are strong echoes here of roles Nanni Moretti has taken in some of his own productions. Gur Bentwich plays a director of a film that he claims is fictional but that has some basis in truth. The director’s girlfriend is played by Bentwich’s real life partner Maya Kenig. Bentwich’s character is mostly serious yet self-deprecating and the light touch tragicomic humour is mostly borne of his weary bewilderment by the situations he finds himself in. This is a worthy, thought provoking filmmaking.

Rating: Strong language, nudity, drug use (snort cocaine.)
