Miami Jewish Film Festival will inaugurate a new documentary award in 2021

For it’s 24th edition, the MJFF will inaugurate a new $18,000 Documentary Achievement Award for the best documentary film in a new juried category. This is in addition to the $18,000 Grand Jury Prize and $5,000 New Wave Prize. In a release dated 18 May, MJFF states that the competition is “open to any filmmaker whose work presents either a substantial portion of its content as Jewish interest or is produced in Israel. A jury of international film professionals and scholars will judge the competition sidebar, the members of which will be announced at a later date.” Igor Shteyrenberg, the festival’s Executive Director, confirmed to JFR that these awards will be in addition to any licensing fees paid to the rights holders.

The 2021 festival will take place between January 14-28. Submissions are now accepted exclusively via Film Freeway. The final deadline is October 9.

The 2020 edition took place between January 9-23 setting box office and attendance records for the seventh year running in 14 locations across Greater Miami area.
